Traditional and Geo Gourmets from Local Restaurateurs

According to the GGN objectives, geopark does not focus on geological and geomorphological conservation alone; it should also enhance socio-economic development. To promote local participation, the department has been working in partnership with local restaurateurs’ to create some geological dishes for visitors, in a way to enrich tourists’ experience, as well as enhancing local economy. Besides traditional Hakka dishes at Kat O Village, some new winter’s geo dishes are now also available at restaurants of Sai Kung Town.

After extended weathering and erosion over hundreds of millions of years, these special rocks have become part of our precious natural heritage, but are also likely to break or even collapse at any time. Climbing on a rock may damage it, as well as injure the climber. To protect our precious natural heritage and to prevent personal injury, do not climb the rocks.

Official Opening of the Fung Ying Seen Koon Kat O Geoheritage Centre

The opening of the Fung Ying Seen Koon Kat O Geoheritage Centre was officiated by the Secretary for the Environment on 4 October 2010. The centre was established through the joint efforts of Fung Ying Seen Koon, Kat O villagers, voluntary groups and the government. The centre, set in a rehabilitated village house, displays mainly rock specimens, Kat O cultural relics and representative fossils. Through the exhibits, it is hoped that visitors can learn about the geology, history and culture of Kat O.

Rock Classroom

Rock Classroom

By playing interactive games and activities, students can learn about the major rock types, characteristics, formation of various kinds of landforms in Hong Kong and increase their awareness of the importance of geo-conservation.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) organised Hong Kong National Geopark Guided Tour Interpreters Tea Party on 24 July 2010. About 70 geopark tour guides and operators to share experiences and exchange their views with the Director of AFCD, Mr. Wong Chi Kwong, JP. and management staff from the Hong Kong National Geopark.

郊野公園之友會-荔枝窩地質教育中心現已開幕

Lai Chi Wo Geoheritage Centre was opened on 6th December. Located in Hakka village, Lai Chi Wo of North Eastern New Territory, the centre is surrounded by beautiful and diverse natural environment. It aims at promoting the geo-resource to visitors in order to raise their awareness of the need for preserving those precious resources.
