Brief Introduction
A New Geography of Hong Kong offers a comprehensive analysis of the humanized and natural environment in our city. Since the publication of the last Geography of Hong Kong book in the 1980s, there is evidently a need to update the contents and expand the perspective to echo recent advances in the discipline. The phenomenal development of Hong Kong in the last three decades, including the rapid pace of urbanization, the changing role in the national and international arena, and the increasing awareness of nature conservation, deserve to be examined in detail through an objective and discerning lens.

Brief Introduction
Ma Shi Chau is located at the Northeast of New Territories. It, together with the surrounding islands of A Chau, Yeung Chau and an unnamed island northeast of Yim Tin Tsai, was designated the Ma Shi Chau Special Area. 290 million-year old sedimentary rock and occurrence of Jurassic tuff were discovered at the Northern coast and the South of Western coast respectively in Ma Shi Chau. Also, many fossils were found on the island. It is one of the places which show us obvious and clear Permian sedimentary rock in Hong Kong.

Brief Introduction
Six Geosites in the Sai Kung area showcase the rich geodiversity of Hong Kong, with intriguing rocks and photogenic landforms that record a violent geological history. About forty million years of volcanic activity concluded with a massive eruption 140 million years ago. This explosion created the spectacular hexagonal columns around High Island, the Ung Kong Group and Ninepin Group, structures that are of international importance. Fascinating rocks formed by explosive volcanic activity, and associated volcanic sedimentar y rocks, are preserved on Sharp Island and at Lai Chi Chong. This fascinating geological record is displayed along a picturesque coastline that comprises steep cliffs and rocky islands.

Brief Introduction
Tung Ping Chau is the easternmost island of Hong Kong. It is made up entirely of sedimentary rocks and has a flat terrain, hence the name Ping Chau (flat island). It has a distinctive formation of richly shaped sedimentary rocks, which is the youngest rock of Hong Kong with a history of about 55 million years and abound in fossils; extended weathering and marine erosion on the coasts result in the spectacular landforms that are unique to Hong Kong.
As an international financial centre, Hong Kong is best known for its modern skyscrapers. But beyond and below the dazzling neon lights, there lie extraordinary geo-relics, many only a stone’s throw away. The main objectives of establishing a Hong Kong geopark are to protect Hong Kong’s precious geological features and promote the popularisation of geo-science.
