Ma Shi Chau is located at the Northeast of New Territories. It, together with the surrounding islands of A Chau, Yeung Chau and an unnamed island northeast of Yim Tin Tsai, was designated the Ma Shi Chau Special Area. 290 million-year old sedimentary rock and occurrence of Jurassic tuff were discovered at the Northern coast and the South of Western coast respectively in Ma Shi Chau. Also, many fossils were found on the island. It is one of the places which show us obvious and clear Permian sedimentary rock in Hong Kong.
