Siu Ying Story Room is the fruition of joint efforts made by the seven Hing Chun Alliance villages of Sha Tau Kok and the Hong Kong Geopark. The story room occupies the space used by the expansion building of the former Siu Ying School. Established in the 1920's, the school provided primary education to children from the seven villages for several decades. It is an important piece of collective memory.
The content of the exhibition mainly comes from oral history interviews with the villagers and the historical materials they generously donated. Arranged in four themes ― History of Hing Chun Yeuk and the Seven Villages; Siu Ying School; Tai Ping Ching Chiu; Farming and Trade ― the exhibition presents the heritage and different lifestyles of the region. It is a wonderful reproduction of rural communities in bygone days.
